Awards hat trick for Stepnell

Stepnell celebrates trio of awards for university venues in Leicester

Stepnell, a family-owned full service construction and civil engineering business, has scooped a trio of major construction awards for its work on two high-profile university venues in Leicester.

The company’s Nottingham business has been presented with three merit awards for craftsmanship – highlighting the company’s excellent workmanship – by the Leicestershire & Rutland Local Joint Consultative Committee for the Building Industry.

Stepnell has been recognised for its work on The Venue: a £3.7 million refurbishment programme which has transformed a former sports centre at De Montfort University in Leicester into a state-of-the art conference and events facility.

The two other awards were presented for Stepnell’s construction of a new contemporary gallery space at the University of Leicester’s Attenborough Arts Centre. Stepnell received an award for its overall performance in building the new £1.5 million gallery and courtyard at the inclusive arts centre. The company also received a separate award for the gallery’s polished concrete floor.

“We are very proud that the skill and hard work by our construction teams has been recognised by the award judges,” says Stepnell operations and commercial manager Thomas Sewell. “These accolades are entirely about the craftsmanship and build quality achieved and we’re therefore absolutely delighted to see this acknowledgement of the expertise and dedication shown by the craftspeople working on these stunning buildings.” Stepnell’s Nottingham office is based at the Eldon Business Park, Chilwell.

The Leicestershire & Rutland Local Joint Consultative Committee for the Building Industry is made up of the Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects; the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland branch of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; the Association for Consultancy and Engineering and the National Federation of Builders (Leicestershire & Rutland Association). It makes annual merit awards for craftsmanship.
