Pupils, staff and governors at The Cedars Academy recently celebrated the delivery and opening of the first phase of their new school campus. The new building was officially opened by Hugh Howe, Executive Principal of the Lionheart Academies Trust, and Rachael Godfrey, a year seven pupil at Cedars Academy.

Guests at the ceremony included David Atterbury, LA Academy Conversion Programme Manager, Birstall Parish Councillors, Charnwood Borough Councillors and representatives from GSSArchitecture, who have acted as architects, project managers, quantity surveyors and masterplanners for the academy.

The project is the beginning of an ambitious masterplan, which combines the Birstall School sites to form the new school campus. The new building creates the focus and “front door” to the newly formed Cedars Academy, creating an inviting and inclusive reception and arrival area, together with administrative spaces, a student reception and student support suites, plus a range of new local conference facilities, and teaching and learning spaces.

Tom Lyons, Partner at GSSArchitecture, said: “It is very exciting to see the completion of the first phase of the comprehensive re-planning of this campus, paving the way for the delivery of future phases to create a 21st century learning environment.”

Jason Smith, Head of the academy, said: “We are delighted with the new reception to the Cedars Academy. This is the start of a journey that will see an outstanding environment for learning grow and develop at The Cedars Academy.”
