Following great feedback for The Student Housing Company’s app, which launched earlier in the year to enable students to explore the Southampton residences remotely, the multi award-winning student accommodation operator has announced that it will be rolling the system out across its new residences due for completion in summer 2017. The decision comes after over 1,000 students in Southampton visited the marketing suite and tested the app, agreeing that the user-friendly technology provides a far more insightful way of navigating new halls of residences than traditional paper floorplans.
The app is expected to be live for the company’s Catherine House (Portsmouth), Bentley House (Birmingham) and Beckley Point (Plymouth) developments in November this year, and for the Dorset Street (Dublin) site in January 2017, allowing more students to view and select their room with transparency, facilitating an informed choice.
The app, developed in partnership with Pelican Media, includes floor plans of typical rooms, showcasing details down to the furniture layouts and where available interior imagery. The app also gives detailed location information from an interactive map that shows all the points of interest in the local area. Accessed by touch screen technology from the marketing suite, the app is also being used on iPads at external student events.
The app will enable the sales team to access a content management system to update gallery pictures, building information and points of interest via an interactive map, ensuring that prospective students are given accurate and current material
Sarah Linton-Walls, sales and marketing director at The Student Housing Company, said: “As a company we’re always pushing the boundaries of what student accommodation operators provide to ease stresses and strains on both prospective and current students. The app has proved more successful than we ever could have imagined, and it’s brilliant to see the five months of hard work spent developing the Southampton software alongside Pelican Media pay off. We’re certain that our interactive approach to allow students to view off-plan student accommodation will be just as successful for our state of the art 2017 developments, which are bringing much needed student rooms to Birmingham, Dublin, Portsmouth and Plymouth.”
Fiona Willson, client liaison director at Pelican Media, said: “Following the success of the bespoke interactive app we created for The Student Housing Company’s development in Southampton earlier this year, we’re thrilled to be working with the organisation again on four new projects.
“The app will enable the sales team to access a content management system to update gallery pictures, building information and points of interest via an interactive map, ensuring that prospective students are given accurate and current material. This exciting technology gives students the same benefit as house buyers when it comes to viewing and selecting their accommodation, which is a game changer for the industry.”
