Tinted glasses

Electronically-tintable glass installed at the Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai

Electronically-tintable glass has been installed in the façade of the landmark building of the Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai (SISD).

The façade of the main building of the school features 110m² of SageGlass®, marking the largest installation of electrochromic glass in the MENA region to date.
The inclusion of SageGlass® in the project provides the occupants with a more comfortable working environment and greater connection to the outdoors, supporting the school founders’ vision to transform the traditional ideals of school buildings. SISD has been awarded the MINERGIE label, a renowned Swiss certificate for the pursuit of sustainable standards and reflects its commitment to providing students with a comfortable and healthy interior climate. It is the first MINERGIE standard compliant building in the MENA region.

“With this dynamic glazing on the façade of our building, we’re setting the precedent for environmental responsibility in an educational environment, and Saint-Gobain and SageGlass are an integral part of our vision,” said Mr Joe Barchini, Partner and COO at the Swiss International Scientific School of Dubai. “We want to attract dynamic educators and staff, so we have to offer working spaces that align with our values of social responsibility and sustainability. From our offices, we can enjoy the wonderful view on the Dubai skyline, even when the sun is shining directly on our windows”.

By blocking sunlight on hot days, the glass dramatically reduces energy demand and the need for HVAC, while increasing occupant comfort and wellbeing. Building occupants have the ability to control their own environment and it provides them with a space that connects to the natural environment, which has been shown to boost productivity and satisfaction in the workplace.
