£13m student living at UWE Bristol

UWE Bristol has unveiled its new £13m student accommodation - Wallscourt Park Residences - with almost 400 new rooms on offer

First year students at UWE Bristol are experiencing the benefits of the new £13m townhouse style accommodation on Frenchay Campus. 

Wallscourt Park Residences has been officially launched at an opening ceremony by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve West.

Wallscourt Park Residences offers 396 student bedrooms in a three and four-storey 'town house' student village concept with separate central security, reception and laundry hub. All the accommodation has shared bathroom facilities, providing an alternative to the en-suite accommodation elsewhere on the Campus.

Construction began in January 2014 with 17 houses handed over in September, occupied by the first wave of new students at the start of the academic term. The feedback from the first 164 students that have moved in to the townhouses has been overwhelmingly positive. The remaining 20 townhouses will be handed over to the University by the 15 December, when the second phase of students will move in.

UWE Bristol Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve West, said, “We are delighted to hear that our students are happy and settled in their new surroundings. There is increasing demand for high quality student accommodation on Campus. Providing modern, accessible, quality accommodation is a key aspect of the way UWE Bristol supports students as they begin their academic journey. It helps to underpin the learning experience particularly in the first year, when students are finding their feet away from home. Congratulations to the project team at Capita and Interserve, some of whom are UWE graduates and current students, on their outstanding delivery of this project – it’s great to see them employing the skills they developed at the University for the benefit of their peers.”    

There are 17 UWE Bristol graduates and two students on the project team for the development.

This project is being managed by Capita and delivered by Interserve Construction Limited. The Sweett Group provided quantity surveying services and Willmore Iles were the architects.

This project is the first in a three phase development which will eventually provide around 1,200 bed spaces on Frenchay Campus and is part of the UWE Bristol Masterplan, the University's vision to build a university for the 21st Century.
