Abacus Playgrounds recently completed a fantastic surfacing project at St Dunstan’s College in London. The brief was straightforward; to replace an old synthetic carpet with a bright and colourful impact-absorbing surfacing, suitable for pre-school children. The client also indicated they were after fun and educational graphics to add play value into the flooring.
This project was a perfect fit for Abacus Playgrounds, and the popular surfacing solution ‘wet pour’ was chosen as a solution. Fully tested to BS EN 1177:2008, wet pour offers an impact-absorbing surface which is durable and fast draining, and is also wheelchair friendly so is the perfect option to offer inclusive play at a school.
Abacus removed and disposed of the old carpet surface, excavated, and installed a new stone base to an old flower bed area to give extra room to play. A new wet pour surface was installed throughout the large open play space.
Wet pour was the perfect surface to give St Dunstan’s the wow factor with their new playground. The colourful surfacing made it easy to incorporate numbers and letters along with games and a new road marking complete with zebra crossing. The children were so excited to see their new playground at the start of September and it now offers a space which can spark children’s imaginations. A fun play space all year round.
