Comp: schools can win a canopy

Canopies UK are giving schools the chance to win a free canopy worth £10,000 by taking part in a new initiative: ‘Operation Playground’

Canopies UK, who provide outdoor structures for schools, has set up an initiative aimed at getting children working together both inside and outside the classroom by creating their own enjoyable, safe playground game.

Schools must enter their best-designed game by pupils in order to be entered into the competition and receive a personalised certificate for taking part in the campaign. The school judged to have the best entry will win a free canopy for their school, along with design and manufacturing, installation and post-installation support from the company with an overall value of £10,000. 

Five specially created lesson plans have been designed by the company for teachers that tie into the National Curriculum at a Key Stage 2 level. The lesson plans are tailored to encourage children to build skills in key areas such as written and spoken English, Mathematics and Physical Education, as well as key interpersonal skills. 

Elaine Morris, managing director of Canopies UK, said: “Schools are often looking for ways to enhance their pupils’ experiences whilst at school by improving the facilities that they offer.

“We feel that it is vital for children to spend as much time outdoors as possible and this competition combines something fun and different for children in the classroom away from the norm.

”This campaign has been created to give teachers something to help lessen their planning workload, as well as give something back to one lucky school with a free canopy.”

Elaine continued: “Research has shown in the past that small amounts of physical activity can help stimulate children into paying more attention in the classroom.

“We hope that this is something that children can feel really proud of by representing their school and we are really looking forward to seeing just how creative and imaginative they can be.”
