The Championships will be held at the University of Derby Sports Centre from 5-7 February 2016, and will see the nation’s best badminton players compete for national titles.

The sports centre opened in September 2015 and boasts an 8-badminton court sports hall, a 70-station fitness suite, squash courts and an indoor sprint track. The centre is also home to Team Derby, the 2015 winners of the inaugural National Badminton League (NBL) season.

Adrian Christy, Badminton England’s Chief Executive, said: “The University of Derby Sports Centre is a brand new venue with state-of-the art facilities that will provide a fantastic venue for the English National Badminton Championships in 2016.

“In recent years, we have been working very closely with the University, and other key partners locally, to grow badminton and I am delighted to bring this great event to a part of the country that continues to demonstrate such a fantastic commitment to our sport.

'The decision to go to Derby reinforces our commitment to take the Nationals around the country to showcase our players to a wider audience with the aim to excite and inspire even more players to play, more people to coach or volunteer, and more fans to get behind badminton.”

Ollie Shearer, Head of Sports Development at the University of Derby, said: “The new £10.8million sports centre has been designed with badminton at its heart, and the flooring, lighting and built-in spectator seating make this a perfect venue for the English Nationals.

“The centre was designed to accommodate the university-owned National Badminton League franchise, Team Derby, as well as housing the England Performance Centre Training Programme, so we are confident the facility will exceed the expectations of fans and players.

“The University is delighted to host the Championships and we will ensure a great spectator experience.”

Since 1964, the Championships have been staged at 18 different venues nationwide – from Manchester and Hull, to Paignton and Brighton.
