Expand to attract

Construction Centre expansion underway at Basingstoke College of Technology

A £953,000 extension to the Construction Centre on the north site of Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) is underway. The modern, single-storey extension will enable the college to be more cost efficient and offer added convenience to students studying the building trades. Fareham’s Amiri Construction, working to plans by Basingstoke based architects Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt, will complete the structure by the end of 2015.

At a recent site meeting with Amiri’s Director Kevin Lendon and site manager Alex Pert, Hazel Jones, Head of Estates and Facilities at BCoT, said that the extension and refurbishment of the original centre will attract students to consider training for the construction industry: “The expanded space will provide new workshops to teach a skills base for many of the trades used by building and construction companies.”

Amiri Construction says that it plans to work with the college to expand its apprenticeship programme.
