Fourth school built under East Dunbartonshire plan

Morgan Sindall to build £8 million St Flannan's Primary School in East Dunbartonshire

Construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall is constructing a new primary school campus in Kirkintilloch as part of East Dunbartonshire Council’s plan to improve schools in the area.

The new building will be constructed at the current St Flannan’s site. The project will see two existing primary schools, St Flannan’s and St Agatha’s, consolidated to form one modernised education offering, fit for 21st century learning. 

Once complete, the school will comprise 12 open classrooms, each with an attached breakout area. The finished facility will occupy 2,259 sq m across a single storey.  

St Flannan’s is the fourth school to be built under the council and development partner hub West Scotland’s Primary School Improvement Programme. It follows the successful delivery of the multi award winning Lairdsland Primary School, which was recently crowned development of the year at the Scottish Property Awards.  

Work to link the St Flannan’s campus to the 3G pitch at Merkland Recreation Centre is already underway and the full project is scheduled for completion by spring 2017.

Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, Rhondda Geekie, said: “Through our Primary School Improvement Programme, the Council is modernising the primary estate, delivering fit for purpose, state-of-the-art primary schools with an enhanced learning environment which supports Curriculum for Excellence.  It is a very exciting time for East Dunbartonshire and I am very much looking forward to seeing the new school being built in Kirkintilloch for the pupils of St Agatha’s and St Flannan’s Primary Schools.

“Through this programme we are modernising the primary estate, delivering fit for purpose, state-of-the-art primary schools with an enhanced learning environment which supports Curriculum for Excellence.”
