Weston College’s multi-million pound plans to create a Law and Professional Services Academy in Weston-super-Mare are one step closer to fruition after it purchased the Arosfa Hotel.
The hotel, located opposite the College’s existing Knightstone Campus, comprises 47 bedrooms, two lounges and a conference suite along with a kitchen, lobby and bar area.
The College will invest £2.8 million in creating spaces for teaching, conferences, office accommodation and other facilities for students. The development work will be completed in spring 2016.
The College’s Law and Professional Services Academy will be a unique flagship enterprise to provide industry-recognised vocational routes into employment.
It will expand upon the College’s recent University Centre status in partnership with the University of the West of England and Bath Spa and improve Higher Education provision in North Somerset.
The academy will offer courses in law and justice services, finance and accountancy, and professional services such as leadership and management, HR and event management.
It is expected that the academy will bring a multi-million pound boost to the local economy, with the creation of 35 teaching and support roles, 250 students, and other auxiliary roles including catering and cleaning staff.
The West of England Local Enterprise Partnership has earmarked nearly £15 million for the project, which will include the restoration of Weston-super-Mare’s Winter Gardens Pavilion.
