New extension completed at Northwich school

Cassidy + Ashton finish third scheme at Barnton Community Primary School

Chester-based architectural practice, Cassidy + Ashton, has strengthened its relationship with Barnton Community Primary in Northwich, following completion of a third scheme at the school.

The £345k project, completed at the end of September, involved the design of an extension at the school to create two new classrooms with a new staircase.

Delivered by Widnes-based contractor, Charter Construction Services, the 23-week programme also included a new toilet block and creation of two new staff offices at first floor level above an existing flat roof.

The project was commissioned by the school to address a growth in demand for places, following a number of residential schemes locally and an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted assessment.

The scheme has built on an established relationship between the school and Cassidy + Ashton. Previous developments designed by the firm at Barnton Community Primary over the past two years include a single classroom and staffroom extension and a dining hall extension, which was completed to accommodate increased demand for school dinners following the Government’s free school meals initiative for Foundation and Key Stage One pupils.

Dave Owen, director at Cassidy + Ashton, said: “This project builds on our impressive heritage in the education sector, leveraging design skills than span a whole range of schemes, from small refurbishments and extensions to major new builds.”

Established in 1960, Cassidy + Ashton is one of the largest multi-disciplinary practices in the North West of England. The architectural, building surveying and town planning consultancy has offices in Preston and Chester and is experienced in a wide range of sectors including education, housing, defence, retail and historical buildings.
