Pocklington School’s new £2million Art and Design Technology Centre is the highlight of a new five-year plan issued by the school's governing body this week.

The Pocklington School Foundation Strategic and Estate Development Plan for 2016 to 2020 sets out new initiatives to enable pupils to fulfil their potential, both academically and through a wide variety of co-curricular opportunities.

The new centre, which is already in the early building stages, will provide cutting-edge facilities for digital and computer-aided design and manufacturing technology, alongside improved facilities for the pursuit of traditional arts and crafts, to help pupils develop the creativity increasingly sought by employers.

Other plans include a new Prep School multi-use hall and installing new lifts to improve accessibility.

Students past and present, as well as parents and staff, contributed their views on the future direction of the Pocklington Prep School, Pocklington School and Pocklington Sixth Form as the new five-year plan was being formulated by the Pocklington School Foundation.

Central to the plan is the aim to inspire every pupil for life through a world-class education by providing innovative ways to enthuse and stimulate every pupil.

Mark Ronan, Headmaster of Pocklington School, said: “We pride ourselves on taking a reflective and evaluative approach to our teaching, so we regularly review our aims to ensure our education remains world-class, while remaining true to our founding values of truth, courage and trust.”

Other areas highlighted for improvement in the plan include enhanced Sixth Form provision, more flexible boarding options, and to become a recognised centre of excellence for pastoral care and wellbeing.
